Quick answers

What two-stroke oil does an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp use?
Evinrude/Johnson XD100, XD50 or XD30; if not available, an NMMA TC-W3 certified oil. XD100 preferred; use XD100 below 32 °F (0 °C). The EMM can be set to the XD100 oil ratio (about one third less oil); then use only XD100. Oil/fuel ratio is EMM controlled; do not add oil to the fuel. Break-in: EMM gives extra oil for the first two hours above 2000 RPM.
What gear oil does an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp use, and how much?
HPF XR Gearcase Lube. If not available, Hi-Vis gearcase lube can be used (long term durability may be affected). No automotive gear lube or engine oil. Quantity: 20 in. (L) models 31.6 fl. oz. (935 ml); 25 in. (X) models 32.8 fl. oz. (970 ml).
What spark plug does an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp use?
Champion QC12PEPB (refer to the emission control information label), qty 3. Gap: 0.030 ± 0.003 in. (0.76 mm).
How often should an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp be serviced?
The factory schedule lists: Every 300 hours or 3 years. In Hawaiʻi's salt water we do a full yearly service every 200 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first, and a new engine needs its first (break-in) service.
When should the water pump impeller be replaced on an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp?
The factory schedule says to inspect it at 300 hours. In Hawaiʻi's warm salt water we replace it every 200 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first, because a worn impeller is the most common cause of overheating.
What is the idle speed of an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp?
In gear 700 ± 50 RPM; neutral 600 ± 50 RPM. Full throttle range 4500 to 5500 RPM.
What is the propeller nut torque on an Evinrude E-TEC 75 / 90 hp?
With keeper 70 to 80 ft. lbs. (95 to 109 N·m); without keeper 120 to 144 in. lbs. (13.6 to 16.3 N·m), then tighten to line up the cotter pin, do not loosen; new cotter pin. Triple-Guard grease on the prop shaft.

The factory maintenance intervals, with what is replaced and what is checked at each. Rows marked Hawaiʻi are our shop's yearly service for salt water use.

  1. Every 200 hours or 1 year (our Hawai‘i yearly service) Hawai‘i

Replace: fuel filter, oil filter, gear case oil, gear case plug gaskets, propeller cotter pin, water pump impeller

    Check: spark plugs, anodes
