Oil, gear oil, spark plugs and the service schedule for the Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250 (2008, 90° V6 3.3 L) (200 to 250 hp, two-stroke), from the factory service manual, plus how we service it in Hawaiʻi.
Quick answers
- What two-stroke oil does an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250 use?
- Evinrude/Johnson XD100 (highly recommended), XD50 or XD30; if not available, a TC-W3 certified oil. Oil ratio is EMM controlled (TC-W3 or XD100 setting in Evinrude Diagnostics).
- What gear oil does an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250 use, and how much?
- HPF XR Gearcase Lubricant; HPF Pro in high performance or commercial applications. Quantity: M type 44.0 fl oz (1300 ml); M2 type 38.9 fl oz (1150 ml); M counter rotation 41 fl oz (1220 ml); L type 33.1 fl oz (980 ml). Fill from the bottom until lube appears at the level hole.
- What spark plug does an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250 use?
- Champion QC10WEP, qty 6. Refer to the Emission Control Information label.
- How often should an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250 be serviced?
- The factory schedule lists: Every 300 hours or every three years. In Hawaiʻi's salt water we do a full yearly service every 200 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first, and a new engine needs its first (break-in) service.
- When should the water pump impeller be replaced on an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250?
- The factory schedule says to inspect it at 300 hours. In Hawaiʻi's warm salt water we replace it every 200 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first, because a worn impeller is the most common cause of overheating.
- What is the idle speed of an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250?
- 500 ± 50 r/min. RPM limit 6050.
- What is the propeller nut torque on an Evinrude E-TEC 200 / 225 / 250?
- With keeper 70 to 80 ft·lb (95 to 109 N·m); without keeper 120 to 144 in·lb (13.6 to 16.3 N·m); line up the cotter pin by tightening, never loosen.
