Quick answers
- What two-stroke oil does a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225 use?
- 2-stroke outboard motor oil, grade TC-W3. Oil injected models: engine oil tank 0.9 L (0.95 US qt, 0.79 Imp qt), sub-oil tank 10.5 L (11.1 US qt, 9.2 Imp qt).
- What is the fuel to oil ratio for a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225?
- Oil injected models: fill the fuel tank with 50:1 fuel/oil mixture only for air bleeding the oil injection system and for the oil pump discharge test.
- What gear oil does a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225 use, and how much?
- GEAR CASE LUBE (USA) or hypoid gear oil, SAE 90. Quantity: Regular rotation 980 cm³ (33.1 US oz, 34.5 Imp oz); counter rotation (L150, L200) 870 cm³ (29.4 US oz, 30.6 Imp oz); dual propeller D150H / D150TR 900 cm³ (30.4 US oz, 31.7 Imp oz). Fill through the drain hole until oil flows from the check hole with no bubbles.
- What spark plug does a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225 use?
- USA models: 150TR and V150TR BR7HS-10 (NGK), qty 6. Worldwide models: 150FETO, L150FETO, 150GETO (S150TR, L150TR, P150TR) BR7HS-10; D150HETO, 175DETO, 175FETO, 200FETO, L200FETO, 200GETO, 225DET, 225DETO BR8HS-10; pre-mix 150AET, L150AET, 175AET, 200AET, L200AET BR8HS-10 (B8HS-10 for China). Gap: 0.9 to 1.0 mm (0.035 to 0.039 in).
- How often should a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225 be serviced?
- The factory schedule lists: Initial 10 hours (Break-in); Initial 50 hours (3 months); Every 100 hours (6 months); Every 200 hours (1 year). In Hawaiʻi's salt water we do a full yearly service every 200 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first, and a new engine needs its first (break-in) service.
- When should the water pump impeller be replaced on a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225?
- The factory schedule gives no replacement interval. In Hawaiʻi's warm salt water we replace it every 200 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first, because a worn impeller is the most common cause of overheating.
- What is the idle speed of a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225?
- 700 ± 25 r/min, all models. Trolling speed 575 ± 25 r/min (150TR, 150A, 150F, 150G, 175A, 175D, 200A, 200F, L200F); 570 ± 25 r/min (V150TR, 175FETO / P175TR); 600 ± 25 r/min (200GETO, 225DET, 225DETO).
- What is the propeller nut torque on a Yamaha V6 carbureted two-stroke 150 / 175 / 200 / 225?
- 55 N·m (5.5 m·kg, 40 ft·lb). Dual propeller D150H / D150TR: rear propeller (M18) 55 N·m (5.5 m·kg, 40 ft·lb), forward propeller (M45) 65 N·m (6.5 m·kg, 47 ft·lb).

Service schedule
The factory maintenance intervals, with what is replaced and what is checked at each. Rows marked Hawaiʻi are our shop's yearly service for salt water use.
Initial 10 hours (Break-in)
Replace: gear case oil, gear case plug gaskets, propeller cotter pin
Check: spark plugs, fuel filter
Initial 50 hours (3 months)
